Opportunities to Participate

Please take a moment to review the many programs we have to offer and prayerfully consider what God would have you do with the musical gift He has given you. It is our hope that everyone who participates in the music ministries program is challenged to grow in Christ and to experience God's unconditional love through the love of music that we all share.

Christ the King Choir    Members of the choir help lead the assembly in prayer through their musical gifts.  The primary role is to add energy to the worship of the entire congregation by embellishing the song with harmonies and choral singing. Choir Rehearsal  begins in September and goes through early June.  We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm starting September 4th.  The Choir sings throughout the year normally at the 9:00 am Mass.  In addition, the choir provides special music during seasonal celebrations including Christmas and Easter.  Please call the church office, 273-0710, if you are interested in being a part of the music ministry.

Christ the King English Handbell Choir    The Handbell Choir will rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6-7 pm starting September 4th and play generally twice a month at weekend liturgies. The ability to read basic notes and rhythms is helpful. The unique sound of English Handbells is a beautiful and joyous accompaniment to the liturgy when used with psalms and chant, random ringing, or in handbell repertoire. The choir has a 3-octave set of Schulmerich handbells and a 3-octave set of hand chimes. Adults and high school students are welcome to join — openings are available.

High School/College Choir  Members of the choir help lead the assembly in prayer through their musical gifts.  The primary role is to add energy to the worship of the entire congregation by embellishing the song with harmonies and choral singing. Choir Rehearsal begins in September and goes through May. We rehearse about two Thursdays a month from 5:15-6 pm and then sing one Sunday a month at the 6 pm mass. Please call the church office, 273-0710, if you are interested in being a part of the music ministry.

Youth Choir Grades 5-8  The youth choir will sing every other month. Please call the church office, 273-0710, if your child is interested in singing for weekend liturgies.

Cantors

The ministry of the parish cantor is to bring the song of the assembled community to life, and to assist the people so that their song may be prayer, from the heart as well as the head.
taken from The Parish Cantor - Michael Connolly

Cantors' primary roles are to encourage the congregation to sing and to proclaim the Word of God through the Psalms. Cantors are required to attend regularly scheduled rehearsals. Cantors sing at the 4:30 pm, 7:30, 9:00 and 11:00 am and 6 pm Masses. Requires audition and commitment to rehearsal and preparation Qualifications: Cantors must have a pleasant singing voice, sing on pitch, strong but not overpowering, good sense of rhythm and tempo,  good diction and a strong presence to relay the word of God through song.

Instrumentalists    Instrumentalists provide musical accompaniment for the cantors and choir at weekend Masses and special celebrations and enhance the overall sound of music during Liturgy.  While people of various levels of ability are welcome to share their talents, a certain level of proficiency is necessary. As with accompanists, there is a wide range of possibilities for brass, stringed and wind instrumentalists to be involved in the Christ the King Music Ministry. Requires audition and commitment to rehearsal and preparation.

Accompanists (Organ, Piano, Guitar)     As our parish grows, so does the need for accompanists.  Opportunities for qualified persons abound, from playing at Masses to special liturgical celebrations.  While people of various levels of ability are welcome to share their talents, a certain level of proficiency is necessary. Requires audition and commitment to rehearsal and preparation.
