Catholic Charities Food Drive
"For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink."
Matthew 25:35
Each month, Christ the King conducts a food drive. The "Shop for the Hungry" Catholic Charities food collection program began in September 2014.
Our next food collection will be held on November 13th-14th before all Masses.
This is not an ordinary food drive; rather we target specific items that are in most need by the hungry of Topeka. We work with Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas to determine each month what their greatest needs are.
Here are the current needs:
- Pancake Mix
- Rice (1 lb. bag)
- Pasta (16 oz. bags or boxes)
- Mac & Cheese
- Hamburger/Tuna Helper
- Canned Pasta Sauce
- Canned Ravioli
- Canned Carrots
- Canned Mixed Vegetables
- Canned Peaches
- Canned Pears
- Canned Chicken (small cans)
- Peanut Butter (individual cups or pouches)
- Juice Pouches
- Bottled Water
If you do not have time to shop for food donations, we will be happy to accept a money donation and purchase the goods on your behalf to add to the collection.
We are grateful for your help in feeding the people of our community! Hundreds of hungry Topekans are fed through the generosity of CTK parishioners.
HOW IT WORKS
Typically the first weekend of the month, volunteers will hand you a brown paper grocery bag as you exit Mass. Stapled to the bag is a grocery list of the items in most need that week. We have a Catholic Charities truck parked in front of church the following weekend before all Masses for you to return your donation.
If you choose to make a money donation, there will be a money box as you first enter our south doors for Mass. Note: If you choose to write a check, please make it out to "Christ the King" so we can purchase the food on your behalf to add to the collection.
